Description

This toothbrush is a wonderful eco-friendly option to replace standard plastic toothbrushes, without sacrificing any of the quality. These are medium-bristle brushes, which do soften up a bit after a few uses.

The handle is biodegradable and the bristles are fully recyclable. The handles are handcrafted, making each toothbrush one of a kind.

A standard plastic and nylon toothbrush can take more than 500 years to decompose. This means that every plastic toothbrush that was ever created is still out there – let that sink in for a second and think about how many toothbrushes you’ve gone through in your lifetime, multiplied by the entire population.

Materials

The handle is made of 100% organic, biodegradable, and sustainable bamboo. The brush’s bristles are made of nylon that is BPA- and toxin-free. The paint used on the handle is environmentally-friendly and 100% biodegradable. The packaging is recycled brown Kraft paper.

Care & Disposal

You can use this sustainable bamboo toothbrush just as you would any other toothbrush. Between uses, place the toothbrush in a holder in an open-air space to keep it clean and dry.

Typically these toothbrushes can last between 3 and 6 months, but will vary depending on your brushing habits. Replace your toothbrush when you see the bristles are frayed and you feel it isn’t as effective. When you’re ready for your next bamboo brush and need to dispose of your current one, you can separate the bristles from the handle for the most effective disposal.

The handle and packaging are completely biodegradable and toxin-free so you can compost it with your other biodegradables. The bristles can be recycled or will biodegrade over a much shorter period of time, which is approximately 30 years.

Recycling the Bristles

You are able to collect bristles from these brushes and include them in your recycling.

Alternatively, our partner, Zero Waste Club, offers recycling services via TerraCycle for the bristles. The process is easy, we just ask that you collect bristles from many brushes before sending them to avoid pollution and cost created by shipping. Zero Waste Club is based in the UK, and you would be responsible for shipping charges, so it would be more cost- and environmentally-effective to find a local recycling solution. However, if that is unavailable to you, collecting many bristles and sending them in is an option as well.

1. Put the head of the toothbrush in boiling or hot water to soften and loosen the bristles.
2. Use pliers to pull out the bristles from the head of the toothbrush.
3. Collect bristles from at least 10 (preferably more) brushes in an envelope.
4. Complete the Zero Waste Club bristle recycling form and follow their instructions on sending in your bristles for recycling.
